Why should you buy from Aliya?? -While looking at the paper you can see the undigested plant fibres (that passed through the elephant) - making it a very unique product! -All of our products are handmade, eco-friendly, and 100% recycled. -The whole process is chlorine and acid-free, and our paper is pH neutral. -The staff that hand-make the products in Sri Lanka are treated with kindness as the Fair Trade Principles are followed. Many of the workers are women and are often given creative freedom. They are allowed to work from home if necessary, and work flexible hours since they have families to look after. -This unique product is helping to show the Sri Lankans that elephants can have a benefit to the economy (providing jobs and income), instead of just being seen as a nuisance. The biggest threat to wild elephants is the human-elephant conflict; as the human population continues to increase the migratory routes are disrupted by homes and farms and elephants can cause lots of property damage. A lack of education and lack of respect to these beautiful creatures causes them to be seen as a pest!!! By using their dung to make a product and provide jobs the locals are able to see them as a resource instead of a nuisance. - A portion of each sale is given back to help care for and improve the lives of the elephants who provided the dung for these lovely products.
